Primus

An Evening with Primus & The Chocolate Factory

Overwhelmed with a fun filled night of wild Willy Wonka antics as the Primus trio, bassist/vocalist Les Claypool, guitarist Larry "Ler" LaLonde and drummer Tim "Herb" Alexander, graced Dallas with  a one-night only performance at the Majestic Theater. Primus is currently touring in support of its latest release Primus and The Chocolate Factory with the Fungi Ensemble which was released on ATO Records October 21st.

Primus and the Chocolate Factory hit the road this fall with a two-set show, in support of its new record, to pay homage to the 1971 film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. After eight studio albums, the new release is the first to feature the classic lineup since 1995's release, Tales from the Punchbowl. To make the night even nuttier, Primus brought its signature candy bars, including Mr. Krinkle (crisped rice), Professor Nutbutter (peanuts) and Bastard Bar (dark chocolate). "The tour and the album are solely a marketing tool just so we can sell candy bars," jokes Claypool. "That’s the whole impetus of this entire project. Because the f-ing recording industry rolled over and let this Internet sh*t all over us. So we had to come up with another income stream, so we’re making chocolate bars because you can’t digitize a chocolate bar - yet."

Nothing short of brilliant, Claypool entertained with his self-described genre of funk-metal and had the crowd dizzy with his antics on the upright bass. In tow were extra musicians on cello/marimba/vibraphone that brought a strange new blend of heavy instrumentation into the mix. Primus stands apart from the ever so ordinary bands and ventures to be a music one-off.
