Armored Saint

Metal Saints Come Marching In

Metalheads in Dallas had plenty to be thankful for this year when the mighty Armored Saint played Trees in Deep Ellum Dallas, Texas just two days after the Thanksgiving holiday.

They opened the show with the title track from their most recent slab of metal, "Win Hands Down." Other highlights included "March of The Saint," "Left Hook From Right Field" and "Reign of Fire."

Armored Saint are a juggernaut live, with guitarists Phil Sandoval and Jeff Duncan soloing like madmen, vocalist John Bush sounding better than ever as he belts out each song and is there a more fun rhythm section to watch than bassist Joey Vera and drummer Gonzo Sandoval?

As the set came to a close, Bush had a story to tell the crowd about the last time he played Trees. He was in Anthrax at the time, and Pantera's Vinnie Paul and the late Dimebag Darrell Abbott had joined them on stage. They didn't want to do a Pantera song, an Anthrax song or even a Kiss song. They wanted to play an Armored Saint song. Bush thanked Dimebag's girlfriend Rita Haney for having the band over for Thanksgiving before doing the song the Abbott brothers had to play, the classic "Can U Deliver."

Their killer set would end shortly after with another favorite, "Mad House." A great show from a great metal band.
