County Music Award winners, Rascal Flatts charged the room at the Peoria Civic Center last January 20th with an energized entrance of drum beating with a synchronized light show.
Flatts has been together for about ten years and is made up of lead singer Gary LeVox, guitarist/harmony vocalist Joe Don Rooney and bassist/harmony vocals Jay DeMarcus. LeVox and DeMarcus are cousins who started playing together and met Rooney through another band inviting him to sit in one night and the rest is history.
The crowd was crazy as the country boys lit up the stage. This show was a great mix of music, comedy and patriotism. Flatts has no problem getting fans on their feet singing favorites such as opener "Why Wait", "Summer Nights" and "My Wish" just to name a few. This country crowd sang along to every song Flatts performed and at one moment front man Gary LeVox stopped to soak it all in.
Impressed with the crowds participation LeVox broke into a little gospel letting you know his appreciation touches way down deep in his sole. Taking us outside the Flatts "The House is a Rockin'" by Stevie Ray Vaughn gave Joe Don Rooney his chance to rock the crowd. Jay DeMarcus took fans to a small town piano bar singing and playing piano to Billy Joel’s "Piano Man".
Together the boys had the entire arena rocking with Lionel Ritchie’s "Dancing on the Ceiling" Flatts music is tight, energetic and soulful. Sometimes there is even a little comedy thrown in. Jay DeMarcus does a little number asking girls if they wear the smallest things in there closet barely covering up there little naughty parts and proceeds to prance around on stage like a girl wanting to know why all the guys are looking at her that way?
DeMarcus ends with "they might be wondering where to rest of your clothes are, just saying". The arena was filled with laughter. Final performance of the night had some of our Marines taking the stage while LeVox belts out "Don’t Stop Believing" a journey cover, a touching yet energetic tribute to our heroes.
