NO... Rock Ain't DEAD
Straight Up Rock N' Roll by Michael Insuaste

Kicking off the concert were local heroes, Dallas own MESSER! Lead by Dereak Messer on vocals, Javi Contreras and Donnie Deville on guitars, Maddox Messer on bass and the wild man Kenny Youngar on drums. Messer warmed up the crowd nicely with a short but hard driving set of original songs from their debut self-titled LP. Starting with "Simple Man" one of their earlier hits, a great number with a nice delivery, a true to form rock and roll song woke the room up. I really give them props for opening to a new audience that were obviously there to see Slash, but by the end of their set, they definitely gained respect from the crowd. Messer finished up with their new single "Save Myself". Good show by a solid rock band!

Slash and his band are on the heels of their recent release, Living The Dream that came out Friday, September 21st, there was no doubt you were sure to hear new material from the new album. Kicking off with "Avalon" "Halo" and straight into "Standing In The Sun" set the pace for what would be a long night of killer music. Seven songs into theirs set, they broke into one of the new songs the new LP, "My Antidote" that had a nice smooth groove, followed by "Serve You Right" that leaned more with some familiar GNR riffs. Both songs well received by the fans, but you can feel the anticipation for hearing a classic Guns N'Roses song but only one was played 3/4 of the way into the show, "Rocket Queen" with an insane guitar solo! It lasted 19 minutes, YEAH, crazy long version!

The sound at the WinStar Global Event Center was spot on! Clear and Loud enough to be enjoyed from any location of the room. The stage lights were straight forward, nothing spectacular, good enough but not over the top. My first time to see a show at this venue and I give it two thumbs up! As for the crowd on hand, it was about 3/4 of the way full. The heavy rains throughout the region probably kept some fans home. Too bad, they missed a great show!

The band finished off with a few fan favorites, "Call Of The Wild" and "Anastasia". Over all, this was a true Rock Show, no frills, no props just PURE ROCK! Highly recommend buying the new LP Living The Dream and if possible go see Slash LIVE! He lives up to his reputation!
