With the anticipation of the show and for many the first time to see GVF, you could feel the excitement among the fans. Even the intro from The Eagles 97.1 fm DJs, Ayo, set the crowd on Fire as he express the love for this band and basically said they are in for a treat as they are following in the footsteps of the mighty Led Zeppelin and in the tradition of rock and blues that is missed in music today!
The band kicked off the show with a mellow new song, "Brave New World" but rolled right into "Highway Tune" to move things into high gear. Honestly, I wished they would have started with a BANG like "Highway Tune", a more familiar song like that would have been an explosive start.
"Flower Power" has to be a highlight of the night and from the warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air, set the tone in the audience to a nice groovious mood. That song really is the bands Anthem!
On to another new number, "You're The One" slowed things down a bit which was followed by "Evil" a classic song by the great Howlin' Wolf. But make no mistake, GVF turns this song and makes it their own. Probably one of the best songs of the night as far as I'm concerned, until they played "Lover Leaver Taker Believer" that was pure brilliance! The JAM in that number seem to go on forever!
Closing with their two most familiar songs, "Black Smoke Rising" title track from their first EP, and "Safari Song" that can easily be the fan favorite, the show ended around the 85 minute mark. Looking around I saw hands in the air and and smiles everywhere for what looked like another great night of throwback rock and roll!
Their new LP, Anthem Of The Peaceful Army is due for release on October 19th. This would be their first full length album and from what I hear throughout the social media fans, they cannot wait for that date! Highly recommended band to see while they are still in the groove. Catch them LIVE!
